In 2017, Central Intelligence Agency released statistics of the Kenyan population which includes a breakdown of the population based on religion and ethnicity. As of 2017, the population by tribe in Kenya is estimated to be 47,615,739 making it the 30th most populated country in the world. The figure has increased as compared to the 2009 census findings where the total population was at 38,610,097. According to the 2018 World Fact Book of the CIA United States, the Kenyan population is more concentrated along the shores of Lake Victoria, Nairobi and in the coastal region along the Indian Ocean. Along the shows of Lake Victoria majority of the population is Luo while for the coastal region Mijikenda and Swahili are mostly populated along the Indian Ocean. As far as tribe is concerned Kikuyus are the largest ethnic group followed by Luhya, Luo, and Kalenjin. 22% of the population is Kikuyu, 14% is Luhya, Luo is 13%, Kalenjin 12%, Kamba 11%, Kisii 6%, and Meru 6%. The statistic also included other African which had a population of 15% while non-African which include Asian, European, and Arab were 1%. 

Kenya population statistic based on religion 

Christianity which is the predominant religion in Kenya is estimated to have 47.7% Protestants, 23.4% Catholics, and other well established Christians are 11.2%. Muslims which is made up of Sunnis and Shiites is 11.2%. The constitution of Kenya which guarantees freedom of worship has enabled indigenous or traditional religions who are 1.7% to practice their faith. When looking at Kenya population by tribe, other religions such as Hinduism and Sikhism have a statistic population of 1.6% while those who don’t practice any type of religion are 2.4%. Most of the well-established religions in Kenya base their foundations from early missionaries.
